HEY GUYS! IT IS SUMMERTIME!
So that means that camp is coming again! I am working hard on my Camp Nano novel! Here is a piece of it.
          Chapter 3
After a half hour somebody had gotten to the point where they had, had enough of the chaos. Now the former captives were sitting on one side of a long table. Kamryn Scott was super annoyed. The weird cat-guy that had watched her idiot brother throw himself off a roof, was now asking them all sorts of questions about their captivity to Manser. What right did he have!? Who did he think he was? Kamryn folded her arms. He had no right to keep her there, she wouldn’t answer his questions. She didn’t care if he had helped get them out of that torture, in fact she would’ve rather stayed in torture than listen to this guy interrogate everyone. She really wanted to tear him to pieces, but instead she sat defiantly in her seat. A sharp nudge hit her in the side and she turned. Her friends Miranda Coleman was jerking her head toward the front of Kamryn. Kamryn turned and saw the cheetah-guy watching her. She gave him an angry stare. “What the heck do you want?!” The cheetah-guy sighed. “I just want to help, okay? I can’t help without knowing what happened to you.” He said matter-of-factly. Kamryn stood up abruptly ad smacked the table angrily, causing it to break into pieces. “WE DON’T NEED YOUR HELP! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, ASKING US ABOUT THAT?! YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT WE WENT THROUGH!” The cheetah-guy got into her face. “Yes I do. I have spent the last year and a half here, facing tortures that even the worst criminals should never face. I have a bloodthirsty monster inside me that comes out when I am super hungry. Right now I am a danger to everyone around me so DON’T PUSH ME or you will not last long here.” Kamryn looked into his eyes, pretty sure he was bluffing, but as she looked into his eyes she became more and more afraid of him. She backed away slowly. The cat-guy sat down, breathing in and out slowly. A girl who was sitting against the wall near the back, stood up and came over to help calm the cheetah. “Hey Jackson, its okay! Calm down…” She sat next to him and hugged him. Kamryn watched them part afraid but also part relieved. She wondered what that cheetah-moron’s problem was! She had a right to not say anything against her own free will, didn’t she?

On the other side of the room…

Jackson hugged Harmony, feeling the monster inside rear its ugly, yet all too familiar face. Harmony’s presence seemed to make it go away, but the anger at that girl, Kamryn… He narrowed his eyes. He had just wanted to help them, and this girl just HAD to be a… He shut his eyes. He was getting angry; he couldn’t afford to get angry. If he got angry, anyone in the building would be in terrible danger. Harmony let go and stared into his eyes. He noticed how pretty her blue green eyes were, how bright her smile was, and his anger slowly started to go away. He smiled at her. “I’m okay Harmony…” She gave him a smile, “Good.” Jackson turned his head towards Kamryn, who was watching them. Her expression was neutral, like she didn’t care that she had almost had sent him into a angry rage another side of the table. “She is afraid of you. You know.” Zander’s voice entered his mind. Jackson looked toward Zander and thought “I scared her? I didn’t mean too… I was scared myself.” Zander chuckled inside Jackson’s head “Yes. But she now knows that you aren’t a guy to be messed with.” Jackson frowned, “I… don’t like it… People that have seen me and are afraid of me treat me like a freak… I hate being like this.” Zander sighed, “I am sorry… I didn’t mean to make you feel bad” Jackson shrugged it off, “It’s okay, man… I just would feel a lot better if I was a normal human again.” Suddenly Marcus came running in with a box of crackers, followed by the boy who matched the description of Jarrod Augustine from the files. Jackson stood up “What’s up?” Seeing the box of crackers, he stood up abruptly “Where did you get that food?” Marcus stuffed a few crackers in his mouth. “Manser has a whole pantry full of stuff” He said with a full mouth “That liar has had the ability to stuff his own face, but he ‘never had enough’ to feed us!” Jarrod chuckled scornfully “More like, didn’t want to feed you. This Manser guy sounds like a complete loser.” Jackson frowned, thinking of all the things that Manser did to them. “You don’t know the half of it, kid.” He turned to the teens that had just been freed, “Are you guys hungry?” The kids looked at each other then back at Jackson. “Duh!” “Just got out of a freaking torture chamber!” “Yes we want food” “Are you a mindreader? YES!” the kids said all at once, whether telepathically or spoken. Kamryn, still looking very defiant, stood up and said “What makes you think…” The girl next her also stood up, “Kamryn! Give it a rest! If you want to be a jerk, be a jerk; but at least be happy that you don’t have brick wall weighing you down. These guys may not be to YOUR liking, but they saved us. They at least deserve respect for that!” Kamryn looked at the girl furiously, then back at Jackson, then at the ground. “You… are right Miranda.” She muttered a half-hearted “Sorry” to Jackson. Miranda smiled at her friend and turned to Marcus, “I heard something about food?” Marcus smiled this really weird smile, “Umm… Yes. Right this way.”

                                    ………………………

Korey stood up to follow, but stopped and turned to the young boy next to him, who was not walking in the right direction. “Ray.” The boy turned around toward the sound of his voice. “Yeah? Who’s that? Korey, is that you?” Korey smiled at the boy, “Yep. You weren’t going the right way, buddy.” Ray cocked his head and pointed in the direction he was going, “The door isn’t that way?” Korey put a hand on the boy’s shoulder, “No”. “You two need help over here?” The cool looking, slightly scary cheetah said walking up. Korey and Ray jumped. “Dude!” Ray said looking and feeling around, “Where did you come from?” As Ray felt around, the cheetah looked at Korey with an arched eyebrow. Korey whispered, “Blind as a bat.” Ray fumbled around feeling for them, “I can still hear! Will one of you help me before I bump into to something and hurt myself?  My sonar vision doesn’t work in such closed spaces.” Jackson and Korey came alongside the young boy, and helped guide him to the doorway so he could follow the others. As they walked Ray looked in the direction that he thought the cheetah was in. “My name is Raphael Tucker, but you can call me Ray. What is your name?” The cheetah smiled, “Jackson. Jackson Malerdeen.” Ray extended his hand towards where he thought Jackson was, only to have it pulled towards the right direction and shaken by Jackson’s paw. “Let’s go find the food, now” Ray said walking down the hallway. He did get quickly lost, but Jackson and Korey found him and directed him toward the right direction. They found Marcus and the others in front of a small cafeteria. The crazy leopard dude was just about to open the door. Jackson chuckled as they ran up “Wow Marcus, giving them the grand tour? I thought you were just getting food.” Marcus gave him a look, then blushed “I-I took too many left turns…” Jackson laughed at his friend. Marcus got even redder “Don’t tell Katelynn…” He stuttered pushing the doors open. Korey put a hand to his mouth to stifle his laughter. On the other side of the door stood the mutant tigress, who Korey was sure was Katelynn. She was holding a tape-recorder and smirking evilly “They don’t have too. Got it all here” She said tapping the tape recorder in her paw. Marcus’s face whitened and his eyes widen, “You wouldn’t…” Katelynn laughed, “Marcus Jenario, you know that I would most certainly use this as blackmail. Right along with your love note from the seventh grade for…” Marcus gave her really big sad eyes, “Please… don’t…” Katelynn laughed and walked away, making room for the hungry teens to run into the cafeteria literally knocking down some of the shelves. Korey searched the shelves looking for his favorite food. After two or three shelves, he found what he was looking for. A bag of crispy corn chips. He licked his lips and walked to the fridge and got a jar of cheesy chili dip. He got pushed out of the way by the group tough guy, Maverick Keller; who was probably looking for some apple pie filling. Maverick ducked down looking for it. “UGH! CHERRY pie filling?” He said picking up a huge can of cherry filling and throwing it over his shoulder. It narrowly missed the young guy with red hair, who produced a shield out of thin air to keep the can from hitting him while he searched for the yogurt. “Maverick. You are throwing things again.” He said not looking up from his search for the yogurt. Maverick didn’t even look at the kid. “Sorry Damon” though not sounding very sorry. Damon nodded “Hey Caddie! Found the sweet and sour pickles for you three.” He said gesturing to Caddie, Miranda, and Kamryn, the former of whom came and grabbed the pickle jar. Maverick stood up from his search for apple pie filling. “YES! I have found the pie filling.” He said as grabbed a knife and stabbed it into the lid of the pie filling. He leaned again the wall and just started to eat the pie filling out of the can with a spoon. Korey sighed and looked around at all his friends that he had spent the last two years with, even though their only recent contact was listening to each other’s screams of pain, and decided that there was no place he would rather be, than surrounded by these guys.

                           …………………………

Caddie watched the scene unfolding in the cafeteria, while half-heartedly listening to her friends chatting about how stupid everything was, and listening to Miranda keep telling Kamryn to calm down. Okay, so saying that she was watching the WHOLE scene would be a big overstatement. She really had her eye on the young boy sitting at the back table, all by himself with a few boxes and a guitar case next to him, reading a comic book. Excusing herself, she walked over to the boy and sat down next to him. “Hey.” The boy looked up “Hey.” Extending his hand he said, “My name is Jarrod. What’s yours?” Caddie smiled and shook his hand “Cadmus Greene, but my friends call me Caddie.” Jarrod smiled, “Nice to meet you Caddie.” Noticing the comic book, he was reading, she gasped, “Oh! Is that Super Archer Family Deluxe!? That is one of my favorites! Isn’t that the one where he shoots the guy with his boxing glove arrow? That was probably the first time he had ever used that one!” Jarrod nodded and put down the comic, “Yes, but the first time it was actually used was in issue 18 by his niece, when she was defending herself from bullies that had followed her home from school.” Caddie cocked her head, “Really? I haven’t gotten to read the first nineteen issues yet. I had to start at twenty, because the first nineteen are super rare.” Jarrod smiled, “They are!” He pulled out a stack of comics and slid them over to her. “ I just happen to own all 19 issues.” Caddie’s eyes widened. “Awesome! She picked up a comic and started reading issue #1.

                         …………………………….

Jarrod pulled his comic to a few inches away from his face so Caddie couldn’t see his expression. Thoughts were running through his mind. “Oh my goodness! There is a girl sitting next to me. Okay Jarrod, do not freak out. Do not freak out.” He peeked over the comic book to look at her. “Wow” he thought “She is pretty… Oh my goodness what if she catches me staring…” He ducked back behind his comic, feeling super awkward. “Hey guys… It’s getting late” Jarrod turned to see Jackson had walked in. “You figure out what happened to the adults yet? Jackson shook his head. “No… And until we do…” Jackson slightly cringed. “We are going to have to stay here as a group. It could be WAY too dangerous now” Everyone started complaining about having to stay in the lab, but Jarrod was fine with it. He had a weird feeling that for the first time in his life, he would be going on a real adventure. On his own.

:D YAY! So lets see a piece of your Nano. It doesn't have to be as long as mine though.

Main Character

Good Morning!
So today I want to talk about your protagonist. This guy/girl/man/woman is your hero. The one who will defeat the baddie. The one who has to make the difficult choices. The one who... Well you get the picture! All I am saying is that this person is your books good guy. And the good guy has to be strong. But he can't be perfect,  all characters have their flaws. It could be anger, selfishness, pride, depression, hating themselves or everything else, or even the fact  that they are far to trusting. So somewhere along the way your character is going to have to overcome their flaws and rise above them.
So what are your main character's flaws.
Here are some of mine:
  • Jackson hates being a mutant cheetah, which means that he is reluctant to use his abilities. He also will not force is help on someone that doesn't want it... Even if they need it really bad.
  • Tod is super prideful.
  • Jarrod is reckless and slightly immature
  • Nyktan is also reckless and driven by revenge.
  • Caddie is insecure.
  • Nirici get angry to easily.
  • Kamryn has anger issues.
  • Kaliyah is very shy
  • Blaze is antisocial, and has anger issues.
  • Katronus is greedy

Meet Leila!

Here is my other helper! A very good friend and a great writer! Meet Leila!

I'm Leila. I'm a Christian teen writer, but I also love to blog and draw, among other things. I homeschool with my two (crazy) siblings, which is fun, even if it can sometimes be a huge mess. We own two dogs, a Maltese and a Shih-Tzu. Sometimes they help with my writing,  even if it's just laying next to me.
I play the violin and love it! You'll usually see me sitting in one of our big trees, wearing sweatpants and a comfy t-shirt, with earbuds in my ears and music blaring. Sometimes I'll talk to myself or hum along to my music, but don't tell anyone. ;)
I have a ton of favorite books, but I love Narnia, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Keeper of the Lost Cities, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, The Journals of Corrie Belle Hollister, Half Upon a Time... I could keep listing, but those are some of my favorites.
I'm working on a series right now, and I'm working on one called "Immortal Fire". I have about a million projects going on right now, but that's the main one. :) I can't wait to see you all around! It was my pleasure to meet you, and I hope you're all excited about this as I am! May God bless!

Meet Ruby!

Believe it or not, I am not the only person who you will see a lot of one this here blog. Say hello to RubixCube! She is going to be helping out with posts and  challenges, and she is really cool!

I go by Rubix around here, so that's what you can call me:) I love to write, blog, and read. I do not like math, or being woken up at the crack of dawn. According to one of my friends, I have an unhealthy love for pens and mugs (and what's in the mug) but I disagree.
I have four crazy siblings, whom I love dearly, even if they drive me a bit nutso sometimes... I also have a dog named Luther, a beautiful Rottweiler, that also doubles as a fuzzy living pillow. I love music and I can sort of play the keyboard, but I'm way better at writing lyrics. I normally wear jeans, a t-shirt, and a jacket if it gets cooler, but on Saturday I wear my fuzzy blanket like a jedi robe.

I love coffee, chocolate, Jesus, writing, reading, commenting, talking to people about writing, watching movies, Lord of the Rings, Narnia, Screwtape Letters, Lark Rise to Candleford, North and South, and I'm going to stop now so you don't fall asleep...

I have currently written two novels, but one ("Realms and Chaos") is still being written. So I've only finished one, but I have high hopes for my second. It's nice to meet you and I hope to see you around in the future!"
What makes a character?
The question above could have many answers. One could be their personality. Another could be their backstory, or their quirks, or other important stuff. What do I think makes a character? I believe all the above answers are true, it all hinges on the way you develop your character. You could write an amazing story with a great character who has an intriguing personality and backstory, but if the character isn't well developed... that could be very not good... So make sure to put a lot of time into developing your characters, whether they be the main character or the guy who just happened to be in the wrong place in the wrong time. For an example of one of the characters I am developing, I am going to use Kamryn Scott
Kamryn Scott is 12 years old with brown hair and blue eyes, she has (very) enhanced strength and anger issues. She likes spending time with her friends Caddie and Miranda, any kind of soda, white chocolate, and her brother Korey and his friend Jarrod (when they aren't being idiots). She dislikes coconuts, Korey and Jarrod (when they ARE being idiots), Marcus, the color orange, and stilettos. She has a weird quirk, whenever she gets angry and there is a piano around she will throw the piano (much to the dismay of Jarrod). She has zero tolerance for stupidity, she isn't very nice, and she just doesn't like most guys.
So lets see your character. I chose a supporting character, but you can use whatever character you want.

DAY ONE!

Hey guys!
Since we are just starting out, lets all share a piece of our writing. Then we can help each other, by critiquing or other means. (And so we can read your stuff :))
 I'll start!
The kid stood on the edge of the roof looking down. Jackson stopped, “Kid, get away from the edge, right now.” The boy turned around. He had a smirk on his face. “Korey” the girl said, her voice warning him not to do what he was thinking about doing. Korey spread his arms out and fell backwards. “NO!!!” Jackson said running to the edge. He looked down and gasped. Korey wasn't falling, he was flying. “KOREY LUCAS SCOTT! YOU IDIOT!” The girl yelled angrily. Then she did the impossible. She tore a satellite dish from the roof, as if it were a toothpick, and threw it at Korey. He dodged it and it crashed into another building. He flew back to the roof and said angrily, “Jeez Kamryn, I was just having some fun. I haven’t flown in at least two years. You didn't have to throw a satellite dish at me.” Jackson stared at them with a shocked expression “You’ve got powers … How?” Kamryn turned and apologized “Sorry about that, we were given special powers by Harold Manser. My brother Korey and I volunteered along with the other kids you just set free. Then Dr. Manser turned psycho and locked us in those cells and started torturing us.” Jackson looked from Korey to Kamryn, “Whaaaaaat?”
Normally I would of just left it at a cliff hanger but... I like to imagine the look on Jacksons face when he's like "Whaaaaaat?!"

Also Here is helpful post #1!

Day 1 Writing may sometimes be hard, especially when the inspiration that drives you is lacking. However the best thing to do is to keep writing, you will find that inspiration can come from literally anything. For example, you could be stuck on a scene and just be sitting at your computer or with your notebook trying to think of a good scene to write; when you overhear two kids arguing over a bandana. Immediately you get inspired to right a scene about your MC and your SC get into a fight on how MC always wears his/her bandana. Now I know that this is a silly example, but inspiration can come from anything. Today try and find something that inspires you to write and write about it. It can be from a baseball game and you can write about how the pitcher is an undercover spy and the criminal mastermind is the catcher, it could be from a boat and you can write about how a movie stars life is threatened by "accidents" on a commercial cruise and the only one who can figure it out it the janitor and a wanna-be journalist, or even from a flower and you could write about how this one flower is the key to human survival.

So in a shorter, less wordy way. Today, find something that inspires you to write and write about it. If you want, you can even share it with me.
Hello! If you have clicked on this weblink, you probably are a reluctant writer who wants someone to help them. Or maybe the one who wants to help a reluctant writer. My name is Vincenzo Pasquarella, and I sometimes feel like I am a  really bad writer. But I have gotten a lot more confident in my writing, and now I want to help others become great writers. Whether its giving tips or writing exercises, I want to help you sharpen your skills so one day others will be reading your books, and love them. Even if you think you are a great writer, some of the skills I am writing about could help you become an even more fantastic writer.
Each Day I will try to write a help post for your benefit and post it on both on here, and on the thread on NaNoWriMo

If you want to join, Drop a post with stuff like:
  1. Your name (First name is fine)
  2. What Genre you like writing
  3. How long you have been a writer for
  4. Random fun facts (I.E Favorite color, or favorite superhero (FYI Mine is the Flash)
